The Red Queen: Itachi

I have named my clay piece in the four-in-a-set groupwork, The Red Queen

The Red Queen is a significant figure in both the groupwork- Battle in Life and also equally significant in Alice in Wonderland.

It is a figure of power, often distinguished by a crown, a heart and two main colours- Red and Black. The red queen represents human's desire for power and their everlasting greed.

This clay sculpture has a basic shape of a sphere on a cone and then a crown with the symbolic heart on it. The figure has a miniature dress consisting of the basic colours red and black. with diamonds sewed onto it. The figure is fixed on a heart-shaped plinth which represents the Red Queen even more obciously.

This clay figure shows the desire for power as this figure is actually the queen chess piece on the chessboard and she is in a way, even more powerful than the king in defense and offense. Although, the queen always long for power as she is not yet the ultimate power as compared to the king. Red and black represents both desire, passion and darkness, which befits the character that I have built

Victory, Desires to Win: Itachi

I have named my drawing, “Victory, Desires to Win”:

My drawing represents a hooded rider that cannot be told if it was a he or a she. The rider is centered in the picture, holding a sword pointed upwards. The horse is standing on its back legs and in the background of the picture are mists and several cliffs and mountain sides, suggesting that the rider and the horse are not on ground level. The rider might be going into battle and there is a chance he might win or might not win. This picture can be considered as Napolean meets Lord of The Rings, as I was inspired by the composition of Napolean (Napolean Crossing the Apls, Jacques-Louis David, 1801) and the black hooded, mysterious figure that reappears time and again in the modern movie, Lord of the Rings.

The hooded rider is drawn so that its face is not revealed, and thus the viewer is able to imagine herself as the rider. The picture has a diagonal composition as both the horse and the rider in the foreground is in a diagonal line. The sword represents victory and although it is pointing upwards, there is a small slant to it and it looks as if it is moving forward.

There is only black and white used. The shadows are depicted using repeated line patterns and solid patches of black represents solid matter on the mountains such as trees that are too small to be drawn. The clouds are drawn very lightly as they represent mist. And not real clouds. The figures are stylized and have a bold and black outline.

The entire mood of the picture is created such as it is neither happy nor sad. It is also not neutral. The emotions present may be mysterious, victorious or maybe even ominuous. The desire to win is represented quite strongly in this work. Desire to win is not about winning or appearing victorious. Instead it is when one doesn’t know about the result, will they have the desire to win.

** Picture unavailable as the picture was not displayes due to lack of space, and thus, was forgotten by team members to photographed **

**We will get it uploaded as soon as possible, sorry for the inconvenience caused**

The Two Faces of Life: Itachi

The Two Faces of Life: Svena

This clay sculpture depicts a figure that has no eyes, no ears and only a mouth with a strange head represents Life. The figure has only it's most essential details, with no arms and legs, but only a round body. This can be either a human or an animal. On one side, there is the word, die carved deeply into it's body while the front shows a heart with several veins protruding to show that the heart is pumping. The mouth is completely hollowed out and it acts as a path, leading the front to the back and the back to the front.

The back of the figure is painted completely black, with the words in red. The front of the figure is competely red, except for a black heart with black veins. Thus, using only these two simple colours which represents life and death (red and black) or blood and darkness, it expresses the relationships of life and death. How life links to death and death also links to life. And it is very difficult in trying to completely show the cut-off line in dealing with life and death. In a way, it shows the two faces of life and it also shows the human's desire to understand the two.

It can be seen in this clay sculpture, that I have somewhat experimented, again, with a different composition, which is usually associated when comparing light and darkness. The colors are applied flatly with not much blending to give it a clear and bold look.

A Walk in Art: Itachi

I have named my drawing: A Walk in Art

My twelve-year-old drawings were the first in the set of 3. It depicts a horse running and it was one of my most intelligent drawings. But what I wanted to show was not really and literally the horse running, but actually, the skills. I remember at that point in time, all I cared about was using lines and contours to create texture, shadows and movement. The subject matter that I drew were mostly real life- such as horses, tigers, dogs, leopards and more horses. That could have been consider the realism period of my life.

The second of the 3 is a drawing I did when I was thirteen. It depicts 2 people a guy and a girl dressed in olden day clothes and the girl’s reflection becomes a guy. In this drawing, I have started to experiment with compositions and my drawing style has changed into a simpler and more cartoon-ish kind of style, yet the use of lines is still quite evident. In this drawing, the lines are more bold and more well-though out.

The last of this set is a drawing I did when I was fourteen. It depicts a few different people. In this drawing, I have also further experimented with a more complex composition. The drawing style has again changed, with the lines being more swift and sharp, than bold and clear. I have used a slightly more messy style of lines to depict texture again and combined the mordern and cartoon style with the realism style I developed 2 years back.

This set of paintings inexplicitly show the different mindsets I had for different periods in time and what are my desires. The first show my desire to completely and correctly depict nature as I see it. The second and third hints at attempts to break free of the traditional imitation of nature as my skill for drawing grows and I try to infuse my own light hearted perspective into my drawings.
