Akuma~Lazy Afternoon

This art piece is done in watercolor and depicts a lazy cat relaxing in the shade of a tree, sleeping high up on a tree branch and away from the bright sunlight. The painting consists of various shades of the green and brown of the tree, the grey of the cat, and the pale blue of the sky. The young grey tabby cat is having a pleasant nap on one of the dark brown boughs of a very green, leafy and shady tree top.

The brushwork of this painting is not very smooth and the brushstrokes for the leaves, the fur of the cat and the bark of the tree trunk is clearly visible. The brushwork of the tree trunk can be considered as being a little rough, to match the texture and color of the tree’s bark. The colors of this painting are bright to make the painting seem sunny.

This painting is meant to portray my desire for lazying around and having a nap on hot afternoons instead of trying one’s best to pay attention during classes in the afternoon, especially after lunch. The tree represents the shade from the weather, the cat representing my desire to be a carefree cat that takes life easy and do as it pleases, while the catnap in the tree represents my desire to escape from boredom, work, and other troubles and simply relax and have fun.

Akuma~Autumn's Joy

This art piece consists of simple origami and watercolor. It depicts a watercolor background, with paper leaves pasted on top, and a frame of watercolor painted around the leaves. The leaves are creased and of various warm autumn colors, such as red, brown and amber, and they are arranged in the shape of a many pointed star of blooming flower. The frame is decorated with pumpkins, onions, autumn leaves and acorns. The entire art piece consists of mainly watercolor except for a little bit of green for the stalk and vines of the pumpkins.

The brushwork of this art piece is relatively smooth, while the creased paper leaves show the uneven texture of autumn leaves. The leaves are arranged in such a way that they radiate from the centre outwards, like a blazing star.

This art piece is meant to portray my desire to experience the lovely autumn that Singapore does not have, the falling leaves, the autumn harvest and the blaze of colors. The way I arranged the leaves was to represent the exotic radiance, joy and happiness of autumn.

Akuma~Wintertime

This art piece is done in watercolor, depicting a winter house situated near a frozen lake, with a barren forest in the foreground and some snowy mountains in the background. The art piece consisted mostly of pale and light colors of white grey and blue. There are some darker tones of colors such as the dark brown of the bare trees, the little shrubs and the water reeds. Even the wooden and brick house is mostly of a pale shade of brown.

The brushwork of this painting is mostly quite smooth, though not entirely invisible. The brushstrokes of the trees are not as smooth as the rest of the painting, as it is meant to depict the texture and varying colors of the tree bark. The colors of the bare trees are contrasting to the paleness of the rest of the winter scene.

This painting is meant to portray my desire for an experience of living in a cosy little house in a cold snowy and peaceful winter countryside, to live away from the hot and humid bustling city for a change, where the scenery is beautiful instead of full of obstructing buildings in the crowded Singapore.

Akuma~The Dormouse Musketeer

This art piece is a clay figure of a mouse in a four-piece group work, which I have named the Dormouse. It represents the sleepy dormouse from Alice in Wonderland and portrays the desire of a human to relax and stick to having one's own pleasure, which in this case is sleeping.

The mouse wears a red coat with a silver brooch and a needle attach to its back. The red coat represents the simple desire of the mouse to just sleep and sleep and continue sleeping, as well as the passion and desire to be useful and fight for its friends. The needle represents the mouse's sword--taking into account of the mouse's small size--and the small but necessary part it plays in the battle of life, as sleeping is its own way of conserving energy, escaping the battle if only for a moment into its own dreams--the way an actual dormouse would during the tough times of winter.

The needle sword, though small like its user, is nevertheless sharp, and both small sword and small mouse should not be underestimated, regardless of its size or sleeping habits. As just as i likes to sleep, it is also protective over its "prized possessions"--which in this case, are its friends, and a thorn is actually quite powerful when it comes to giving pain.

The Red Queen: Itachi

I have named my clay piece in the four-in-a-set groupwork, The Red Queen

The Red Queen is a significant figure in both the groupwork- Battle in Life and also equally significant in Alice in Wonderland.

It is a figure of power, often distinguished by a crown, a heart and two main colours- Red and Black. The red queen represents human's desire for power and their everlasting greed.

This clay sculpture has a basic shape of a sphere on a cone and then a crown with the symbolic heart on it. The figure has a miniature dress consisting of the basic colours red and black. with diamonds sewed onto it. The figure is fixed on a heart-shaped plinth which represents the Red Queen even more obciously.

This clay figure shows the desire for power as this figure is actually the queen chess piece on the chessboard and she is in a way, even more powerful than the king in defense and offense. Although, the queen always long for power as she is not yet the ultimate power as compared to the king. Red and black represents both desire, passion and darkness, which befits the character that I have built

Victory, Desires to Win: Itachi

I have named my drawing, “Victory, Desires to Win”:

My drawing represents a hooded rider that cannot be told if it was a he or a she. The rider is centered in the picture, holding a sword pointed upwards. The horse is standing on its back legs and in the background of the picture are mists and several cliffs and mountain sides, suggesting that the rider and the horse are not on ground level. The rider might be going into battle and there is a chance he might win or might not win. This picture can be considered as Napolean meets Lord of The Rings, as I was inspired by the composition of Napolean (Napolean Crossing the Apls, Jacques-Louis David, 1801) and the black hooded, mysterious figure that reappears time and again in the modern movie, Lord of the Rings.

The hooded rider is drawn so that its face is not revealed, and thus the viewer is able to imagine herself as the rider. The picture has a diagonal composition as both the horse and the rider in the foreground is in a diagonal line. The sword represents victory and although it is pointing upwards, there is a small slant to it and it looks as if it is moving forward.

There is only black and white used. The shadows are depicted using repeated line patterns and solid patches of black represents solid matter on the mountains such as trees that are too small to be drawn. The clouds are drawn very lightly as they represent mist. And not real clouds. The figures are stylized and have a bold and black outline.

The entire mood of the picture is created such as it is neither happy nor sad. It is also not neutral. The emotions present may be mysterious, victorious or maybe even ominuous. The desire to win is represented quite strongly in this work. Desire to win is not about winning or appearing victorious. Instead it is when one doesn’t know about the result, will they have the desire to win.

** Picture unavailable as the picture was not displayes due to lack of space, and thus, was forgotten by team members to photographed **

**We will get it uploaded as soon as possible, sorry for the inconvenience caused**

The Two Faces of Life: Itachi

The Two Faces of Life: Svena

This clay sculpture depicts a figure that has no eyes, no ears and only a mouth with a strange head represents Life. The figure has only it's most essential details, with no arms and legs, but only a round body. This can be either a human or an animal. On one side, there is the word, die carved deeply into it's body while the front shows a heart with several veins protruding to show that the heart is pumping. The mouth is completely hollowed out and it acts as a path, leading the front to the back and the back to the front.

The back of the figure is painted completely black, with the words in red. The front of the figure is competely red, except for a black heart with black veins. Thus, using only these two simple colours which represents life and death (red and black) or blood and darkness, it expresses the relationships of life and death. How life links to death and death also links to life. And it is very difficult in trying to completely show the cut-off line in dealing with life and death. In a way, it shows the two faces of life and it also shows the human's desire to understand the two.

It can be seen in this clay sculpture, that I have somewhat experimented, again, with a different composition, which is usually associated when comparing light and darkness. The colors are applied flatly with not much blending to give it a clear and bold look.

komui~~ hatter(figure)~~

This is a costume for the character mad hatter and he is like an adventurous person and thus, a cape and also living in the forest, brown represents the nature. And also being a very mysterious character in character, the silver shows the mysteriousness and also he is a very weird in a way that he is the mad hatter and the silver adds to it. The pattern also shows how complicated he is and how no one actually understands him totally and that even he might not be able to do so.

The desire to use the costume to put the character into its character, by using color and pattern to portray the character better. Although this piece is simple but it shows much to the viewer, through colours and patterns.

Komui~~ imitation~~

convey the desire to live and have this connection with the 2D world and the 3D world, which is the reality now. The artist may also be trying to show how she wants to live in the 2D world and escape the world now.
to convey the desire to have this connection. the ribbons represent the connection and the painting represents the 2D world and the ribbons represents the 3D world. And the work goes with the theme desire as it shows what the desires.

the desire to imitate the world now, the desire to make things real... to have that connection, to create it. it is just like movies, making stories, words on paper come to life, to make things happen, to give hope to people. and making people believe...

komui~~gun~~

This is a gun made baised on a anime and in the anime, whatever this gun shoots at, the feelings contained in the object or even in a human will be shown. this shows not only the desire to recreate the 2D world but to also show the desire to let other know the feelings of what the other have for you and also what you have for others. Desire to be able to express through gifts and through objects, and to also express own feelings.
to recreate the objects from the 2D world to 3D. to make imagination come true. every thing is possible as long as u believe.

this is made mostly with styrofoam and cardboard.

Komui art~~ time~~

This is a water colour painting and this show the desire to be able to not only look at the past but also the future and also be able to change the past. The clock represents the past, present and future and the pictures represents the things that happened as time passes and being able to see them means that they can be changed. to show the desire to change time or travel in time and look into her own life. The color choice also shows how mysterious the past, present and future can be and how the future can still be changed.

the different phrases of life is also shown and this also shows the desire to look at the past and mend what was wrong, to clear all regretts and also to look at the times that were good, to cherish the moments spent with loved ones. to also create a better future through lessons from the past. the past should not always be remembered nor should it always be forgotten. Learn from the past and also put the anger and regretts behind as there is still a future waiting to be created.

A Walk in Art: Itachi

I have named my drawing: A Walk in Art

My twelve-year-old drawings were the first in the set of 3. It depicts a horse running and it was one of my most intelligent drawings. But what I wanted to show was not really and literally the horse running, but actually, the skills. I remember at that point in time, all I cared about was using lines and contours to create texture, shadows and movement. The subject matter that I drew were mostly real life- such as horses, tigers, dogs, leopards and more horses. That could have been consider the realism period of my life.

The second of the 3 is a drawing I did when I was thirteen. It depicts 2 people a guy and a girl dressed in olden day clothes and the girl’s reflection becomes a guy. In this drawing, I have started to experiment with compositions and my drawing style has changed into a simpler and more cartoon-ish kind of style, yet the use of lines is still quite evident. In this drawing, the lines are more bold and more well-though out.

The last of this set is a drawing I did when I was fourteen. It depicts a few different people. In this drawing, I have also further experimented with a more complex composition. The drawing style has again changed, with the lines being more swift and sharp, than bold and clear. I have used a slightly more messy style of lines to depict texture again and combined the mordern and cartoon style with the realism style I developed 2 years back.

This set of paintings inexplicitly show the different mindsets I had for different periods in time and what are my desires. The first show my desire to completely and correctly depict nature as I see it. The second and third hints at attempts to break free of the traditional imitation of nature as my skill for drawing grows and I try to infuse my own light hearted perspective into my drawings.

Lero: Artwork 4~Wishing crane/Desire for wishes to come true

THE LAST ONE~~~~XDD
---------------------------------------------

This piece of artwork is a Japanese traditional paper crane, but instead of being folded with a piece of paper, it was folded with a large piece of transparent plastic sheet with the “stomach” or the centre of the crane filled with colorful folded stars.

The crane was folded with plastic and therefore mostly transparent but some parts that had multiple layers of it folded together had become translucent instead. The wings have yellow and white straws on both side to hold up the wings better. The stars in the centre of the crane are not folded with really bright colors either, mostly light colors such as white with other colors such as pink, lime green, light yellow and blue.

This artwork represents all desires coming true or at least the wish for such. It could be easily interpreted this way since both paper stars and cranes are believe to be able to grant wishes. According to Japanese beliefs, folding a thousand paper crane would enable you to have a wish granted, where else for stars, they were commonly associated with wishes such as the shooting stars are also called the “wishing star”. To me, wishes are basically the same as what you desire, therefore, the paper crane and stars, both representing wish-come-true, could be said to be “desires-come-true”.

According to the analysis and interpretation above, I would say I judge my last artwork to be, maybe not the best-looking artwork, but definitely the most successful at showing the theme “Our Desire” and sums up all my artwork quite well, seeing as it mean “Desire for all desire to come true.”

Lero: Artwork 3~Desire to Travel the world

Hehe~ am eager to post all the write ups up A.S.A.P to be done with it...(hope Itachi, Komui and Akuma does the same or else...?!)
---------------The amazing Dividing line XDD-----------------

This artwork is consist of a huge paper cutting of a hot air balloon in pasted in the middle of the paper together with a lot of different flags of different countries created from shapes cut out from various different colored paper. The hot air balloon in the middle is completely in light blue cut from the same piece of paper. The patterns on the hot air balloon looks like they originated from traditional Chinese paper cutting, however, the balloon also has shapes like cat ears and whiskers on it. The flags in the background are all flags that seemed to be easier to cut, mostly stripped.

This piece of art work was supposed to represent, as the name of the art piece suggest, my desire to one day be able to travel around the world, but at the same time, to not ever forget my home country, china, and the fact that I’m a Chinese, thus the idea of traditional Chinese paper cutting kind of pattern on the hot air balloon itself as well as the first flag at the top left corner of the whole piece being the flag on China. The cat ears and whiskers however, could be because I, being the artist of this piece, love cats and thus could somehow represent my “identity” in this artwork, in which saying that I’m the one that wish to travel around the world. I would also add that for interpretation, if this work was done by someone else, I could also have thought that maybe the flags the background are actually the countries that the artist wish to go to the most, even though for me, this is not the case.

I believe this artwork shows the desire to travel the world quite well even though this still couldn’t really express “desire”, but it’s obviously to be something someone would want.

Lero: Artwok 2~Desire for(to have) a cat!!! =^^=

This is a simple artwork consisting of a hand sewn tiny collar and a lot of colorful yarn and a tiny ball rolled using the same type of yarn all of which were supposed to be able to be used to decorate one of the “chess piece” in our group work “Desire to live in a dream”, the Cheshire Cat.

The collar was sewn using a small piece of midnight blue cloth that feels slightly furry and had two bells, one big and one small in blue and silver respectively attached on it. The yarn used to tie around the “Cheshire Cat chess piece” was purple, pink, green and blue combined on one piece of yarn.

This artwork was could be intended to mean the playfulness of a cat and how fun and interesting a cat could be, combined with our group-worked “Cheshire Cat chess piece” it could also show the “weirdness” of a Cat, in this case the Cheshire cat, with unusually matched colors in the yarn and a collar with two bells instead of just one.

To judge this piece of work in my own opinion, I would say it’s again, not very good at expressing the part about “desire” although it could be linked to the fact that I would want a cat that would be hopefully as interesting, in this case, as the Cheshire cat from Alice in wonderland.
