This art piece is done in watercolor and depicts a lazy cat relaxing in the shade of a tree, sleeping high up on a tree branch and away from the bright sunlight. The painting consists of various shades of the green and brown of the tree, the grey of the cat, and the pale blue of the sky. The young grey tabby cat is having a pleasant nap on one of the dark brown boughs of a very green, leafy and shady tree top.
The brushwork of this painting is not very smooth and the brushstrokes for the leaves, the fur of the cat and the bark of the tree trunk is clearly visible. The brushwork of the tree trunk can be considered as being a little rough, to match the texture and color of the tree’s bark. The colors of this painting are bright to make the painting seem sunny.
This painting is meant to portray my desire for lazying around and having a nap on hot afternoons instead of trying one’s best to pay attention during classes in the afternoon, especially after lunch. The tree represents the shade from the weather, the cat representing my desire to be a carefree cat that takes life easy and do as it pleases, while the catnap in the tree represents my desire to escape from boredom, work, and other troubles and simply relax and have fun.
