This artwork shows a kite on a background made up of three varying shades of green. The colors used in this artwork are all very bright and consist of mostly greenish and yellowish colors, thus having an equal share of warm and cool colors. On the left side of the art piece the word “Childhood” is spelt sideways with slightly decorative patterns at both ends (top and bottom) of the word, and on light brown background instead of green. A thin line in red separated the words and the kite, which is divided into four areas each showing a different season in the year.
Some part of the artwork the glass deco has more texture and are rougher than other and some of the colors used are mixed. The whole artworks, especially the green background, are also all “broken into pieces” like mosaic, other than the pictures in the kite.
The whole artwork was made to represent “childhood”, or my desire for it again, as the word at the left side of the picture suggest, as well as the desire for the four seasons that I experienced when I was still in china when I was still young. This was meant to be shown from the kite, which was a common representation of childhood happiness and the different, smaller pieces of drawing in the kite showing the four seasons as mentioned earlier to represent what were the things I used to do when I was still a child or simply what I had experienced (autumn, winter…). The background of the artwork was done in varying shades of green because it was meant to represent something like the leaves of a tree, thus making the kite a kite with a broken string, or in this case without a string and was stuck in a tree, intending to mean that it’s a lost kite that can’t be found again even though I want it back, just like a my childhood, therefore having a kind of “nostalgic” feeling to the artwork, dispute the bright and cheerful colors.
I think I was probably successful in representing “childhood and the four seasons”. However, like my two of my other artwork, it’s in fact not very successful in representing “my desire” unless people who see it already knows the theme of the artwork done by our group or can think very deeply.
